Our Teaching Placement

Teaching Project:

Core Aim: Inspire every child to love learning!

Project Overview:

Modern education in India is often criticized for being based on rote learning. Young people are taught facts and information rather than being given the opportunity to problem solve, develop analytical skills and express an individual persona.

The challenges faced by rural students in Tamil Nadu are:

  • Pressure from family to earn money rather than continue their education remains the mentality amongst many families, kids are sent out to fend for the family over going to school.
  • A lack of resources, opportunities and facilities to develop individual skills and knowledge, which becomes detrimental to the learning process.
  • There is a total lack of encouragement to children who are genuinely able and interested in pursuing academics as most of them are first generation leaners. Such children have to depend on the single (or a small number of) teacher/s and hope that they are both competent and kind enough to invest time in nurturing them.
  • Though the young graduates are more innovative and creative and are good in hard skills, procuring a secure job is still a major challenge due to lack of softskills.

  • CYDF’s Teaching Project:

Our teaching project aim is to support under-resourced local schools by assisting them in teaching, games and activities both inside the class and out. At CYDF, a mutual exchange of skills and experiences will enrich both parties. We support local children through their education, improving their future prospects by assisting teachers in schools with lessons and fun educational games and also through other child development projects. Our teaching projects provide additional resources to teachers in need. While English language skills enable the students to link between different communities and increase their employment opportunities. Hence there is much scope for volunteers to actively involve themselves in the service of rural students.
